This is a truly brilliant article on mindset. He talks about how most people are going through their days thinking about junk food and how many pop tarts they can cram into their caloric budget whilst still losing weight. Obvously this is a damaging mindset. Always thinking about when your next cheat meal is normally comes from a restriction-based mindset, rather than allowing yourself to have a few snacks every now and then.
He talks about focusing on cramming more good stuff in, rather than thinking about the negative stuff. You need micros, water and protein, and I’ve spoken about having daily targets in these key areas before in another Fat Loss Tips article. Specifically, have targets here:
- Calories burned through general activity and/or cardio
Willpower is a finite resource, however, you can train yourself to increase the supply of this precious resource through practise. Very cool. He talks in this article about training yourself to do this one step at a time. I.e. only have one goal at a time.
For example, a smoker who wants to quit smoking should not also try to cut out sugar and alcohol at the same time – that’s clearly never going to happen. This is why I always talk about sustainable dieting, sustainable goal-setting and adjusting your lifestyle and priorities around your goals. Trying to do everything at once is going to destroy your willpower.
This is a good article from Revolutionary Lifestyle Design on motivation and music. In my opinion, you should listen to music not only when working out but also when you’re reviewing your life goals. Very motivating.
