https://www.flickr.com/photos/ayuminy/6946102217 Coffee is one of your most powerful weapons when following Intermittent Fasting as I…
I’m sat here once again in Cuba, drinking my morning coffee and thinking about how lost I would be without it. Okay, maybe that’s a small exaggeration, but you get the point. If I had a pound for every time coffee stopped me from becoming hungry, I’d be a pretty rich dude.
I don’t think there is anything as good as coffee for suppressing your hunger levels. Water is pretty good, especially when you time it properly with some big meals. This bloats you up and you get more bang for your buck so to speak.
But coffee genuinely makes you less hungry when on a diet. It’s great. You also get more energy and productivity – pretty nice.
So, without further ado, let’s get into the three reasons as to why coffee will get you shredded for the summer:
Number 1 – It Makes You Less Hungry
Pretty obvious, right? It is, but you’ve got to actually do this and take advantage if you want to get shredded. People mess up their diets left, right and centre, but they then rationalise it later on and blame an external event.
No, you moron! It’s because you were too hungry or you were craving something. The external event obviously plays a role, but you would have more control over it if you weren’t hungry.
Just because your kids or grandkids came in from school with sweets did not suddenly “make” you want to eat sweets. No, your hunger was too high or your cravings were too high. You are the problem, not your kids, not your wife. Accept responsibility, then make plans to minimise the chance of external events impacting you negatively.
Coffee help with both hunger and cravings so this is a good place to start.
Number 2 – It Boosts Your TDEE
Total Daily Energy Expenditure. A big problem with guys on a diet, especially busy Men Over 40 with an important career, is the lack of calories they burn on a day-to-day basis without forcing themselves to go to the gym and do cardio.
It’s one of the big, BIG reasons as to why we’re all fatter now than in previous generations – we’re too sedentary. It’s an enormous problem. But it has a solution, like all problems do. In fact, it has many solutions. One is to schedule time into your calendar every day to go for a brisk walk (early mornings are great).
But coffee is also a very easy and very valid solution. It increases your energy, alertness and general desire to move about. This burns more calories. You may think that this is insignificant on any given day, and you’d be right. But this seriously adds up over the course of a week.
Think about it. Every single day you would rather stand than sit. Walk instead of staying put. Fidget instead of slump motionless. It adds up over time. It will get you shredded throughout the summer.
Number 3 – Coffee Makes You OBLITERATE Your Workouts
Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a guys named Alex who was obsessed with finding the “perfect” supplement stack – #bro – and this involved searching for the “optimal” pre-workout. I desperately wanted to believe all the hype, and believe that some magic supplement could turn me into a shredded machine, but I digress.
But from my vast, vast experience with all pre-workouts, I can tell you this for a fact:
The only ingredient that really does anything in them, that isn’t currently banned or illegal, is caffeine.
The days of ECA (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) are gone. Anything that has proven to be legitimately effective for fat loss has been banned. Apart from caffeine. Trust me when I say this – caffeine is what makes you obliterate your workouts. All the rest is fairy dust.
And guess what has plenty of caffeine in? Coffee. Caffeinated coffee, of course.
Obliterating your workouts means:
- Peaking better for short-term strength, which is great for setting personal records
- Having more energy for cardio
- Burning more calories
- Being capable of more sets
The most important one for summer shredding is easily having more energy for cardio. The big problem guys face when on a diet is not having enough energy to do cardio properly. It’s not just about the time or distance, it’s also about the exertion. Having more energy for cardio will burn more fat.
This will be a night and day difference over the course of the summer compared to the guy who doesn’t have pre-workout coffee.
There ya go – drink coffee and enjoy the benefits. Just don’t go overboard, especially at the start of a diet. Combine this with Intermittent Fasting, and you’ll be very lean before you know it.
