Coffee is one of your most powerful weapons when following Intermittent Fasting as I suggest – not eating breakfast, eating during a narrow window, and fasting in the morning.

Not only does it taste great, but it also:

  • Ramps up your metabolism
  • Blunts your hunger
  • Increases your productivity
  • Increases your strength in the gym
  • Allows you to push that first meal back further

And it does all this, for a grand total of zero calories. Pretty nice. But this leads me onto one of the most frequent questions I receive on Twitter:

“Can I have milk or creamer in my coffee?”

The answer, technically, is yes. Milk or creamer in your coffee isn’t going to ‘ruin’ your fast or any of the benefits of coffee. The net benefits are still there, so don’t listen to people who say otherwise (they’re not as lean as I am, and never will be).

Sugar WILL ruin the benefits, as you’re simply encouraging your sugar addiction by doing this. Definitely no sugar in your coffee.

However, there’s something I’d like you to consider.

I would argue that the more coffee you drink, the more you are detracting away from your potential fat loss gains by having milk/creamer in every cup.

Let’s look at the numbers:

Take Bob, who drinks four cups a day. He has creamer or milk (around 25 calories) in each cup, totalling an extra 100 calories per day, or 700 calories per week (!)

His buddy Bill also drinks four cups of coffee, but only black. No milk, no creamer. Bill therefore SAVES an extra 700 calories per week. That’s roughly an extra 0.2 pounds of fat lost per week, or 0.8 pounds per month.

Now, the numbers don’t necessarily work out linearly like this as there’s always complicated external factors involved, but the overall point still holds true – you WILL burn more fat by sticking to black coffee only, not to mention the effect that the bitterness will have on your taste buds and sugar addiction/cravings.

So it’s short-term AND long-term.

This is one of the key reasons (although there are many) as to why I’m leaner than just about every Keto, Carnivore or Paleo follower.

While a lot of them are either eating breakfast and a wide eating window, or simply not drinking much black coffee, or insisting on eating ridiculously high fat (70% of their calories – holy shit), I’m fasted, ramping up my metabolism, and murdering any chance of having cravings or a sweet tooth.

It’s a very strong position to be in as far as fat loss is concerned. By the way, you can learn exactly how to implement my eating system for yourself with tailored meal plans right here.

Intermittent Fasting + black coffee. Make sure it’s a part of your daily routine.
