If you want to get shredded for the summer, you would be wise to stop smoking weed. Weed has disastrous effects upon your motivation, energy and appetite. I’ve seen it lead to binges too often in men of all ages – not good for fat loss.

 

It’s the same kind of thing with alcohol and junk food. You can actually have some when you are already lean and are seeking to maintain your new physique (once you’ve adapted after a maintenance period).

 

Maintenance is easier than progression.

 

But until then, until you’re summer shredded and have been for a while, you need to seriously back off on the drugs, booze and sugar.

 

Stop Program Hopping!

 

This is a great article by Road To Solidity. He highlights the problem of many over-eager beginners – trying to do everything at once. This applies not only to training routines (which he focuses on in the above article), but also to diets. Trying everything at once means you do everything badly and never really do any one thing particularly well.

 

Instead, focus on the basics. The basics being – the big compound lifts, getting yourself into a calorie deficit without starving yourself, and getting a consistent cardio routine going.

 

Focus on the basics first, then once you’ve mastered the basics, you can start thinking about more complicated stuff. The basics always come first. Without them, the complicated stuff will not work and will not be sustainable.
