The question is not only one of quantity, but also of timing. Are you eating enough protein? Are you spreading your protein out in a timely fashion?
Protein is of course crucial for anabolism and avoiding muscle breakdown, despite having said in the past that you probably don’t need as much as you have been led to believe.
This is especially true for Men Over 40 who are constantly walking the catabolic tightrope.
Paul answers these questions. Very important stuff – have a watch.
Oh boy, this is a good video from Eric. Caffeine is one of the staples of my Intermittent Fasting lifestyle, and frankly, you’re missing out massively if you don’t use it.
It has many benefits, including:
- Better workouts
- More energy
- Heightened mood
- Increased focus
- Greater productivity, and more importantly than all of the above…
- Suppressed appetite
Eric talks about tolerance build up, and how to avoid this. He also talks about something very interesting:
Only some of the benefits are mitigated by an increased tolerance. Appetite suppression is NOT ONE OF THEM. I’ve found this to be 100% true. This means caffeine will always suppress appetite, regardless of tolerance levels. Awesome.

Jason has a great video here on Minimalist training, which is something I absolutely recommend, especially if you’re a busy older guy with a very full life.
Minimalism is not about minimal effort. Nobody said that. You should always train hard, obviously. You should also train consistency, obviously.
Minimalism is still consistent, high effort training. But where it’s different from non-Minimalism is the amount of wasted time in the gym.
To expand upon this; most people waste time in the gym. They spend far too much time doing:
- Isolation exercises
- Too many variations
- Too many low intensity sets
- Body part splits
- Low frequency work
Whereas if you only focus on the compound movements, and you do full-body work, you save an enormous amount of time. You waste nothing.
